Review
Malunde is a movie with very good intentions, but unfortunately it doesn’t fully succeed in delivering its message. The two main characters aren’t portrayed too well, their actions and motivations sometimes puzzled me. Some of the situations (like the incident with the drug gang near the beginning of the movie and a few others others that follow) were overly simplified, I wouldn’t have minded something a little bit more realistic that doesn’t leave the viewer wanting to know more.
From a technical point of view the DVD edition of this movie lacks on several aspects. First of all, even though the language is English, this is South African English, which at times was hard to follow for me. The not so great quality of the sound track, plus the lack of subtitles made watching this movie an exercise in remote gymnastics, since many times I had to repeat sections of the movie to catch all the dialogue.
All in all, this is a decent movie to watch, it may even get a tear or two out of you when it reaches its climax.
