Review
It is always gratifying for me to see great actors in great performances. Forest Whitaker as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin Dada is a real treat to watch and should not be missed.
The film, based on a novel of the same name, provides an account of the rise and fall of Amin, as seen through the eyes of Dr. Garrison, a fictional Scottish doctor that becomes Amin’s personal physician and advisor. Garrison, who works as a doctor in a modest village clinic when Amin rises to power, becomes fascinated with the dictator’s enthusiasm and charisma. The fascination turns out to be mutual, due to Amin’s love for Garrison’s birth country. The doctor, naive at first, strongly believes in Amin, but as time passes starts to notice the signs of his brutal regime.
The film depicts several scenes of violence. There are two particularly gruesome scenes that will affect sensible viewers, so watch with caution.
