Review
In this comedy remake directed by the Coen brothers a group of inept thieves dig a tunnel from the basement of an old black woman’s home to the volt next door, where the local casino stores its winnings. When the woman discovers what is going on in her basement and threatens to go to the police the crooks decide to kill her, but this task will prove easier said that done.
Tom Hanks plays the leading role in this movie, a supposed college professor and master mind of the robbery. Those who follow Hanks may enjoy seeing him doing comedy. I, who don’t find Tom Hanks particulary interesting, found his role a bit tiring, his extremely long and verbose lines of dialogue are sometimes intolerable. All in all, the Ladykillers is a decent but forgettable comedy, it has some entertainment moments but it pales in comparison with previous criminal comedies by the Coen duo such as Fargo and O Brother, Where Art Thou?.
