In the 1950s world depicted in this Canadian comedy humanity is suffering from a terrible zombie epidemic. Major cities had been fenced to protect their citizens from the flesh eating monsters that are out in the wild, and children practice shooting at school, since the only thing that stops a zombie is a shot to the head. But not all is bad news in this world populated with zombies. ZomCom Corporation developed a collar that eliminates the zombie killing instinct, and is selling tamed zombies to households and businesses to perform as servants. This is well received by the community, and soon pretty much every family has a zombie, even the milkman uses one for his deliveries.
Young Timmy Robinson is pretty happy with Fido, the new zombie his mom brought to the family, he is even teaching him to play ball. But one day, Fido kills an elderly woman after his collar malfunctions and his thirst for human flesh returned. Timmy tries to cover all the tracks that point to him and prevent ZomCom from taking him away from his family. Mr. Theopolis, a neighbor who once worked for ZomCom, repairs Fido’s collar and everything goes back to normal… with the only problem that now the dead woman is also a zombie, and she is on the loose.
Director Andrew Currie created an entertaining movie where zombies can be lovable creatures… at least when they have their ZomCom collar. Billy Connolly gives Fido a good range of emotions and personality only through gestures and grunts, it is difficult not to like him, even when he has warm human blood all over him. And Tim Blake Nelson is great as retired zombie expert Mr. Theopolis, now living a life of leisure with his good looking zombie Tammy.
