Review

FargoFargo is a kidnapping movie like no other. The Coen brothers turned a simple idea into a classic masterpiece that has the right amounts of crime and comedy, with excellent performances and the snowy Midwestern landscapes as background. You can’t ask for more.

FargoAn inept car salesman has many debts to pay and no money. His father-in-law is pretty rich though, so he conceives the idea of hiring two men to kidnap his wife and demand a ransom from her father, which he will split with the crooks. It is an easy plan, nobody would get hurt and he would get the money he needed so much. Unfortunately things don’t go according to plan, and soon a dead cop shows up, followed by more deaths. That’s when the extremely pregnant Police Chief begins to investigate. Her laid back, small town attitude will not prevent her from following the leads that will take her to the killer.

FargoThe film contains some scenes that are extremely gruesome, however, the moments of comedy are the ones that are more easily remembered. There are a number of memorable scenes, like the kidnapping carried out by the two crooks, the scene where the Police Chief interviews the two hookers with thick Minnesota accents, or any scene in which William H. Macy shows his car salesman smile, which is by itself, worth watching the whole movie.
